The Kalle Shirtdress is Here!

Beautiful Closet Case Design pattern company released a brand new pattern this week, the Kalle Shirt and Shirtdress, and Marta already whipped one up out of drapey agave tencel shirting. She was a little nervous about all the technical finishes on this garment, but the results were elegant and stunning. Turns out there was no reason to worry!

Marta's Agave Closet Case Design Kalle Shirtdress

I'm in love with this dress. It is all that I want to wear from now until forever.  The tencel stays cool, is pleasantly heavy, drapes beautifully, and makes a really cool sound when you shake it out. It also gets really stiff and weird when it gets wet in the washer- don't worry, it goes back to being buttery once it 's dried.

Kalle Shirtdress Button Band + Collar

I decided to make this dress on a whim and I ended up feeling like I had bitten off quite a bit more than I could chew. The Kalle Shirtdress is much more finished and polished than anything I have made before. I was very nervous about nearly every aspect of making this dress- sewing with tencel (turned out to be much easier than I expected- it does like a sharp needle though!), THE BUTTON BAND (terrifying, turned out to be the least difficult of all of my construction worries), the collar (I made it much more difficult than it actually was), and the yoke (something that I hadn't even anticipated- but you get to use something called "the burrito method" which automatically made it fun). I was also nervous about the fit. I was worried that it would be too small through the hips, but it ended up great. I love the fit. It is boxy and drapey and structured in all the right places. I decided to make a size 20 based on finished garment measurements, and I'm happy with the result, but I could probably get away with sizing down a bit.

I definitely would not have been able to complete it without the help of my fellow tigers, THANK YOU ALL. I am also very very happy that I stuck with it and completed this project. I am sew (teehee) proud of myself and of the finished garment. Also, I learned so dang much making this. I can't wait to make another one soon to ensure  I remember all of the new things I learned. I think I also want to make the cropped variation to wear with skirts!
