Jumping for Joy

I can't get enough of the Les Fleurs rayon from Rifle Paper Co. I made robes out of them last year for my wedding and I loved it so much I decided to get more to make an outfit for everyday wear! The red version of this print is my favorite so I snatched some more and started sewing!

Size Made: 2

Necklin of the Marigold Jumpsuit

One of the things I loved about working with this rayon previously was how nice it is to sew for such a drapey material. It can be slippery when cutting out the pattern pieces, but if you lay them flat on a quilting mat and use a rotary cutter the process is much easier. I also find this helps to keep your pattern curves a little smoother than using fabric scissors.

I made the pants first and immediately tried them on. This fabric is like pajamas you can wear in public and it's amazing! The Marigold pattern also has a high-waisted pants version and I definitely want to make them now after seeing the bottom half of the jumpsuit. I also saw an example of this pattern on Instagram where someone made the pieces separately as a pants/crop top combo which I thought was great!

The pants portion moved along quickly but the top was a little more difficult for me. I have a long torso so the armpit area seemed to sit a little high. However, once the straps were in place it fit much better than I expected! There was much pinning and measuring beforehand to make sure I could get the right fit. It wasn't a huge hassle but I definitely over-analyzed the fit during the sewing process. This outfit was one of the most fitted garments I've made so I got a little paranoid about the end result but in the end it was great and I'm really happy with it!

I can't wait to wear this jumpsuit all summer long! The rayon makes the perfect breezy summer fabric. Now that I've gotten my fill of the Rifle Paper, I think I'll try out the Marigold trousers in one of the many great linens we have in the store right now!

    Hello, Charlene!
These rayons are really nice and don’t have a lot of the fraying issues that some other rayons have, but Lauren still serged all her raw edges to make sure everything looked nice and stays together.

    Thanks!

This is gorgeous! Can I ask how you finished your seams? I’d love to sew with rayon, but am worried it will fray to nothingness.

I visited Fancy Tiger on a recent work trip to Denver and totally saw you sporting this make. I thought you looked terrific! Nice work!
