We’ve just wrapped up our Fancy Shawl KAL #fancyshawlKAL featuring the Pōhutukawa Shawl by Francoise Danoy of Aroha Knits, and we could not be more impressed with all of you who have taken part. More than one of the participants were brand new knitters, some working on their very first project! We love that you bravely took on this challenge and are smitten with the gorgeous results of everyone’s work.

We were especially pleased to be able to have a special lecture session with Francoise during this KAL regarding the cultural significance behind her designs. This extra layer of context made us appreciate this beautiful shawl even more, and we hope to be able to bring you more educational opportunities like this in the future.

We had three different categories to award prizes for this go-around, so without further ado, here are our winners!

This shawl was certainly an undertaking at over 1200 yards, and we are floored at how many of you were able to finish by the end of the KAL! For the category of Best Finished Photo, our winner is, Katie Scruggs. We absolutely love how this finished shawl turned out, and we hope you love it just as much as we do!

More than anything, Rae has said she loves to see everybody’s progress from week to week as the KAL continues. For the category of Best In-Progress Photo, our winner is, Samantha. In the photographs is her adorable cat, Magritte. Thank you for your beautiful photos of your work!

As we stated earlier, we had quite a few new knitters for this project, which was definitely a bit spicier than your typical beginner project! Large stitch counts, lace, and new techniques meant that knitting surgery had to be performed from time to time. Rae LOVES mistakes, as she says, “We fail upwards!”. Our winner for the category of Best Rescue Photo is Alicia Heard We love that you forged your way forward and leveled up your skills in the process!

Thank you to everyone who participated with this KAL and spent your Friday evenings on Zoom for the last couple of months. We can’t wait to see you for the next one!
