Fall is for Fens

While Jaime and I were teaching at A Gathering of Stitches, we were able to get in some sewing time with our students. We both made fall-tastic Fen dresses and these babies are sure to get a lot of wear as the weather gets cooler!

Amber's Fen

Pattern: Fen Dress with Long Sleeve
Size made: 6
Fabric: 3-5/8 yd 100% Linen Canvas Forest
Modifications: Straightened the hemline

I have been eyeing a heavy Japanese linen in the most mysterious color, a deep off-black with a hint of greenish brown. The weight and drape is perfect for the Fen dress! This linen is woven with heavier, uneven threads for a slightly rustic texture. The fabric doesn't crease as much as I would expect from a 100% linen. I love my new dark Fen for fall!

Jaime's Fen

Pattern: Fen Dress with Long Sleeve
Size made: 6
Fabric: 3-5/8 yd Mammoth Flannel Red and Grey
Modifications: Removed bust darts

Fall is here and what could be more appropriate for fall than a cozy plaid flannel. We just got in some new colorways of these amazing flannels from Robert Kaufman so I decided on this bright red and grey plaid. I used the Colette Seamwork tutorial for matching plaids when cutting this out (be sure to buy extra fabric if you plan to do this). This is my coziest Fen to date and I foresee a lot of wear out of this during the colder months. I haven't made a long-sleeved Fen yet and I love the added sleeve length.

Planning a mammoth flannel Fen myself and wondered, why did you eliminate the bust darts?

    Thank you!
