Caitlin's Procraftinator Christmas Slippers

If you're a procraftinator like me, then you're all too familiar with the holiday craft crunch! This past Christmas I had a hard time settling on a gift for my mom. She deserves the whole world, so I bounced back and forth on several handmade gift options before settling on the California Comfortable slippers by Andrea Mowry.

Caitlin's California Comfortable in Malabrigo Chunky

The pattern was quick, straight forward, and best of all, cute and cozy! I have never knit socks before, so I think this was a great precursor to trying out everyday socks. They are knit top down with an after-thought heel. Andrea includes a link to a super helpful video if you're knitting an after-thought heel for the first time.

The pattern suggests using a super bulky yarn on size 10 needles. I ended up choosing a pretty variegated color of Malabrigo Chunky.  This yarn is actually slightly smaller than what she suggests, but I found I could get gauge by going up to a size 10.5. I went ahead and knit the cuffs on a size 10 so they wouldn't be quite so slouchy, and I think they ended up just right!

Arrow and Caitlin

Also, meet my new pup, Arrow! She wasn't too impressed with these slippers, but luckily my mom loves them!
