Pattern: Hosta Tee and Sweatshirt by Fancy Tiger Crafts
Materials: Bamboo Cotton Stretch Rib in Chartreuse
Size Made: XL
Modifications: Added View C funnel neck to View A

The Hosta Tee is such a quick sew that it's basically instant gratification. The pattern is very easy to understand and the instructions are clear and straightforward. I was drawn to the boxy style and slightly cropped length. The multiple views open up the possibility for more garments. I was excited about making this because it is going to fill a hole in my wardrobe. With the season changing, I have a need for layering items. I decided on the long sleeved version of this top and for added warmth and coziness I added the funnel neck. I like to use knits as a palate cleanser after several long sewing projects.

Enter in the Bamboo Cotton Stretch Rib. It’s so soft and stretchy with lovely drape. This fabric gives the Hosta the versatility that I’m looking for in my clothes. It can be worn close to the skin as a base layer or over some summer dresses that I intend to transition to winter wear. Due to the stretch, I reinforced the shoulder seams with a strip of bias tape and made sure to handle the cut fabric carefully. I chose this amazing green color because I envision it going with multiple pieces in my wardrobe.

I sized down from the pattern recommended 3XL to an XL because I only wanted a bit of ease in the pattern. Which will allow me to layer this easily under sweaters, dresses, and jackets. Sewing up this long sleeve tee was a breeze on my serger. The sleeves were a bit tricky to ease into the cuffs but with some patience and pins it worked out and looks beautiful. I used a twin needle to top stitch the neck band and it's one of my favorite details. It is my way of showing off how perfectly the thread matches.

I'm very happy with how this Hosta turned out. In the future I’d like to make another Hosta with a higher funnel neck and use a thicker sweater knit. I’d also like to try out the fabric with something more body conforming like a long sleeved bodysuit to really show off the stretch. The uses for both the pattern and the fabric are almost endless.
