Beginner Bag Sewing: Patterns & Fabrics for Getting Started

We’ve covered our favorite beginner-friendly garment sewing patterns but now we’re turning our attention to bags. Bags are a great place to get started with sewing: you’ll learn a variety of techniques that can be applied to garment sewing, and you can focus on the process without worrying about fit. From tote bag sewing patterns to cute zipper pouches, these patterns are a great place for beginner sewists to start. If you’re on the more experienced end of things, consider these patterns as good gifts (without a major time commitment).

You’ll learn a lot of good bag-making basics with this Woodland Dopp Kit pattern, from zipper installation, lining tips, boxing corners and installing rivets. Grab the kit for a pro finish, and pair it with a cheeky cheetah print canvas for unexpected punch.The Stowe Bag is another great pattern for beginners. There are no fancy closures  to assemble, but the bag does feature interior pockets, great for stowing crafting supplies on the go. The pattern offers two sizes.
