Caitlin’s Bulky Freia Pom Pom Hat

Fall is just around the corner, which means I'm anxiously planning my bulky, cozy knits for the inevitable cold spells of Colorado. I haven't been knitting much this summer, so the promise of snow is inspiring me to cast on a few new projects.

If you've never seen Tina's handpainted Freia yarns, take a look! The colors are so incredibly beautiful, it's like opening a box of pure magic anytime we receive an order from her.  Each skein is handpainted with long color runs that run smoothly from one color to the next. I've always admired these unique yarns, but hadn't taken the plunge until I stumbled upon the Freia Pom Pom Hat pattern on Ravelry.

Pattern: Freia Pom Pom Hat by Roxanne Yelle, free download on Ravelry
Yarn: 1 skein Freia Ombré Super Bulky, color Vintage
Size Made: small
Modifications: none

The pattern is simple, quick, and extremely gratifying - my favorite! I knit the hat in just one night and topped it off with a pom pom a few days later. The simple 1x1 rib is knit in the round, and never gets boring because you'll want to see the next color on your needles. I made the smaller of two sizes, and it is the perfect fit. There was still one color run left over, so I'd recommend you start with your favorite end of yarn so you don't end up being disappointed!

I love a big pom pom, and this one is no exception! I used a new tool that we just started carrying, the Loome, to make this one. It was super easy to use, and so quick with the bulky yarn!
